Description
The 37″ x 25″ Plant Kingdom chart is printed in five colors. It is designed for classifying 48 plant pictures and provides a sensorial impression to help both the teacher and the student immediately understand the botanical master plan. Each color represents a visual key to the organization of plant classification. In all, the chart includes 13 phyla.
COLOR CODING:
Green represents all plants, and there are no pictures to match.
Blue represents the four major divisions of the Plant Kingdom, and there are no pictures to match.
Brown represents all the phyla of the Plant Kingdom. There are ten pictures to match and classify into the ten cor¬responding blank spaces on the chart.
Black represents all the classes and subclasses of the Plant Kingdom. There are six pictures to classify into six corresponding blank spaces, but there are nine classes and two subclasses illustrated on the chart.
Red represents all the orders of plants. There are 32 pictures to classify into the 32 corresponding blank spaces. An additional list of 32 orders of dicotyledons is printed on the chart for further research.
The Plant Kingdom chart is accompanied by 48 colored pictures 2″ x 2″ in size. To guide the students in the classification of these plant pictures, the back of each little card bears the common name of the plant represented and some basic information on the characteristics of the phylum, class, or order to which the corresponding plant belongs. Again, the sensorial approach is used to aid the teacher and student in this classification. The back of each picture is printed with one of the colors used on the chart to indicate phylum (brown), class (black), or order (red).
A list of the 48 common names matched with their
corresponding names of phylum, class, or order are provided
as a final control for this classification.
NOTE: This work presupposes a general knowledge of botany that the student may acquire by using the set of 48 Plant Stories designed to lead up to botanical classification.
